Hi Everybody!
Just a quick note to say that at long last and after MANY requests, I have re-released my cd "Farewell New England's Shores" and it is available for purchase at www.skiphealy.com.
This is the cd for people who enjoy the "straight up trad" sound of flute and guitar. My old "Bog Barons" buddy Danny Noveck does a fantastic job backing up a wide range of tunes both traditional and original, old favorites and rarely heard tunes as well. This cd has the debut of my often covered (by rarely lisenced...) tune "The Return Home" along with several other original tunes. This is also the final recording I made playing a non Healy Flute Company instrument, a beautiful old Boosey Pratten Perfected flute. This cd was recorded "live to the master", no tricks, no re-takes, just the pure drop. A little overdubbing the flute tracks for thickness and a whistle tribute to Phil Moloughney in "The Coolin" but all straight to the master.
I also re-released my cd "Purgatory Chasm" a few months ago which features harpist Aine Minogue and guitar whiz-dude Flynn Cohen. A much thicker sounding cd featuring some more highly arranged tunes but also a mix of original and trad tunes. Some well known music and some rare tunes I learned from my old friend Phil Moloughney at his cottage in Co Tipp, Ireland. This cd is a mix (about 50-50) of tunes played on the flute and the American fife. The cd took it's name from a park in Massachusetts and from the funny position I have found myself in. That position being the that some of my fife playing friends say I am an Irish flute player not a fifer and some trad people who used to comment that I am a fife player not a trad Irish flute player. I thought that those conflicting opinions put me squarely in the gap between the two, "Purgatory Chasm"!!
There will also be a couple more releases later this year, a re-release of my Grammey nominated album (yes, ALBUM. remember them?) "Empty Pockets" which featured Johhny Cunningham and Gerry O'Sullivan along with several other friends. I am going to be releasing a compilation cd of selected track old and new and also a NEW recording featuring some very highly arranged tracks more along a classical chamber ensemble style...
So there ye go, no excuses. Get busy and stimulate the economy by buying yourself a whole bunch of new tunes from the "Guru of the Gaspipe" (used to love that nickname...) ME!!!!!!!!!!!
All the best,
Skip Healy
